James "Earl" Lane and Zada "Ruth" Stapleton Lane of Kingsport will celebrate their platinum (70th) wedding anniversary, and their 90th birthdays this summer.Earl was born on June 23, 1920, in Kingsport, and Ruth was born on June 27, 1920, in Big Moccasin, Va. They were wed July 7, 1940.Mr. and Mrs. Lane are the parents of Jim Lane and wife, Barbara, of Kingsport; Kay Lane Porter and husband, Ron Porter, of Blountville; and the late Judy Arlene Lane.They are the grandparents of Terri Lane Allen Templeton, Sonya Lane Hensley, Teronya Porter Holmes, Tiffany Porter Smelser, all of Kingsport; and Brandon Porter of Franklin, Tenn. They are also the proud great-grandparents of seven boys: Seth Hensley, Hunter Allen, Porter Smelser, Aaron Holmes, Silas Porter, William Holmes and "one soon to be born"; and six girls: Shea Hensley, Hannah Smelser, Nevan Smelser, Delaney Porter, Cassidy Porter and Sadie Porter.Earl and Ruth continue to live in their home of nearly 50 years in the Bloomingdale section of Kingsport. Earl, who served in the United States Army during World War II, is retired from Mead Corp. He still enjoys taking care of his yard, gardening, and visiting with family and friends. Ruth, who is known far and wide as one of the best cooks and homemakers of all time, still enjoys cooking and spending time with her family and loved ones. Their family and friends have been the happy beneficiaries of many tomatoes, cucumbers, Sunday suppers, caramel cakes, and chocolate pies over the years! Earl and Ruth are dearly loved by their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others. The Lord has blessed them and their loved ones with many years of happiness and good health, and their family is truly thankful for the long, wonderful lives they continue to lead!
