Dr. Dan C. Armstrong, formerly of Gate City, Va., celebrated his 90th birthday on June 12, 2014.
Dan was born June 12, 1924, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Ruth Burkhart Armstrong and Darak Armstrong.
He graduated from Knoxville High School and served as a signalman in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received a business degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee, graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Ga., and received a doctorate from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Ill.
Dan served as pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church in College Park, Ga., for 25 years. He was a chaplain at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and was director of social services at the Atlanta Union Mission. He and his wife Faith also owned and operated a counseling center in Atlanta.
Dan has three adult children from a previous marriage. He has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He has been married for 30 years to his present wife, Faith Dowdy Armstrong. They are both writers.
A party is planned for later in the year in Florida.
