OneKingsport summit failed miserably if diversity was its goal

So city officials and citizens met about revitalizing Kingsport. Visiting the OneKingsport Facebook page I instantly noticed something. The group photo with the mayor and city manager shows zero diversity. Looking hard, I think I see two non-Caucasians in the very back. I see no one with a disability. Hardly equal treatment in a gathering aimed at diversity.

Letters: Kingsport destroying community

Here we go again, folks, the next phase by the City of Kingsport to destroy what once was a peaceful community. Their latest project is to destroy more of the Sullivan County school structure. They plan to close Sullivan North High School. Move the students to where, Gate City, Church Hill or Sullivan South. Who knows?

Leave Sullivan North alone

It looks like the North community is about to take another hit as plans indicate closing its high school and losing its middle school. So-called experts say the main reason is the enrollment of North. This problem rests solely with the City of Kingsport as its aggressive annexation has taken over half of the original North school zone.

Local football coach sets bad example for youth

I recently happened to be within earshot of a local public school football coach. He was trying to encourage the students to hit the tackling dummies much harder. His specific instruction was “pretend it is your sister. I know you want to hit her.” I recalled a similar instruction given by a coach 35 years ago who encouraged students to “pretend it is the fella that made your sister cry.”

TVA should ask for help from Army to fix Boone Dam

TVA has the people of this area under a stranglehold because they will not ask for help. They could give a hoot about the financial problems that will happen to the people of this area. Firms like TVA feel they do not need us, but they know we need them.
