KINGSPORT — Ivan Wilson lit up Bristol Pirates starting pitcher Junior Lopez for two home runs — including a solo shot in the fifth inning for the final go-ahead run — and the Kingport Mets went on to collect a 5-3 Appalachian League victory at Hunter Wright Stadium Thursday night.
Lopez (3-3) gave up a two-run blast to Wilson in the second inning, falling behind 3-0 that frame. Zach Mathieu preceded Wilson's blast with an RBI double.
Jose Garcia scored another run on an error in the seventh inning to provide cushion for the K-Mets (28-26).
Leadoff hitter Leon Canelon went 2-for-4 for Kingsport, which scratched out six hits.
Jimmy Duff (3-1) picked up the win in relief for the K-Mets, after taking over for starter Andrew Massie with two outs in the fifth inning.
Duff struck out four and walked none over 3 1-3 innings. Ismael Tijerina took over in the ninth, going on to collect his sixth save of the season.
Eduard Figueroa, Jerrick Suiter and Nathan Tomaszewski had two hits apiece for the Pirates (15-37). Bristol leadoff man Pablo Reyes scored twice, getting on board with a single and a walk.
Bristol scored its first run in the third inning on a passed ball. The Pirates tied the game up at 3 in the fifth inning on a Suiter sacrifice fly and an RB I single by Trae Arbet.comments powered by Disqus
