COEBURN — Looks like Mother Nature may give Lonesome Pine Raceway a break for Kids' Night.
After rain washed out the past two scheduled events at LPR, the forecast finally looks favorable for Saturday, Aug. 16 and the Morgan-McClure Chevrolet and Coeburn Home Center Kids' Night at The Pine.
Headlining the night will be the Wallace Kia Late Model Stock division for twin 40-lap features. Street Stock, Mod-4, Pure-4, Rookie Pure-4 and Pure Street/Iron Warrior divisions will also be in action on the high banks.
Chad Finchum holds a 24-point lead over second-place Kres VanDyke in the Late Model division. Finchum has six wins at LPR this season to VanDyke's two. Finchum and VanDyke are the only two drivers to reach Victory Lane in the division in 2014.
Kirby Gobble leads the Street Stock standings by 12 points over Rob Austin. Gobble has six wins in the division out of seven races.
Joshua Gobble increased his lead to 22 points over Billy Duty when he racked up another second-place finish in the Mod-4 division on July 5. Gobble has one win this year and five runner-up showings; he has finished no worse than second all season.
John Ketron leads the Pure-4 championship standings over son Jason Ketron, Jackson Austin holds a comfortable 38-point lead in the Rookie Pure-4 division, Duke Bare tops the Pure Street standings, and Aaron Ratliff is out front in the Iron Warrior division.
Pit gates open Saturday at 1 p.m. and grandstands open at 4 p.m. Kids' Night activities begin at 6:15 and racing at 7 p.m.
Adult admission is $10 and children 12-and-under are admitted free.
