An attempt to show off a new gun and laser sight ended with emergency responders at a Kingsport home, where a resident reportedly shot her husband while Skyping with their daughter.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the man remained hospitalized in good condition. Kingsport police detectives are investigating the incident.
A report at the Kingsport Police Department states that shortly after midnight Wednesday officers responded to a home in the 2000 block of Patton Street. Upon arrival they found the male resident, 54, sitting in the driveway. He was applying pressure to a gunshot wound to his upper right thigh.
When asked what had occurred, the man said he purchased a Ruger LCR .38-caliber revolver over the weekend. His wife was reportedly on the Internet Tuesday night — and "attempting to show it to their daughter via Skype" — when the weapon discharged.
The victim was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by EMS. His wife, also 54, corroborated his account of events — adding that she was specifically attempting to show their daughter the laser sight when the gun fired.
A police report notes that the woman immediately dialed 911 after the incident. A detective was called to the hospital to investigate further. No charges have currently been filed.
