Pharmacist allegedly steals pain meds from Kingsport store

Jonathan W. Grim, 39

A former Kingsport grocery store pharmacist has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than 500 pain pills over a period of four months.

According to records at the Kingsport Police Department, Jonathan W. Grim, 39, was charged with felony embezzlement on Tuesday. Grim, of 244 Maple Ridge Drive, Jonesborough, was reportedly employed by Ingles on Fort Henry Drive.

A loss prevention specialist with the store reported the alleged theft to police. They stated 510 Tramadol pills had gone missing, with Grim stealing the medication on eleven separate instances since April 20. A police report states Grim was employed by the store just four days prior to the first theft.

Police list a wholesale value of the pills at $2,336, with a retail value at $4,567. Loss prevention reported that upon confronting Grim he admitted to taking the medication for his own use, stating that he had an addiction.

As of Wednesday morning Grim remained held in the Kingsport city jail awaiting arraignment. KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton says the Vice and Narcotics unit is currently investigating the case to determine if additional charges are merited.
