ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County man was killed Sunday in a four-wheeler accident after apparently hitting a stump and overturning while traveling down a hill.
A neighbor told the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office that John Michael Winegar, 65, left to ride his four-wheeler Sunday morning, and hadn't returned for several hours.
The neighbor stated that Winegar usually called his sister at 5 p.m. but hadn't done so Sunday evening.
Neighbors searched the area near Winegar's home in the Beech Creek community south of Rogersville before calling for assistance.
Rescuers from the Hawkins County Rescue Squad, Goshen Valley Fire Department, Hawkins County EMS and other local volunteers conducted a search on the mountain near Winegar's home and found Winegar deceased as a result of a four-wheeler accident.
HCSO Deputy Ken Williams said it appeared Winegar was traveling down the side of a hill when he hit a stump, and the four-wheeler flipped.
HCSO Detective Ken Sturgill and a coroner were called to the scene and determined Winegar's death was accidental.comments powered by Disqus
