JC police: Mom on drugs leaves children in SUV for hours

Stacey L. Barrett, 34

Two young children were left alone in an SUV for hours at a Johnson City shopping center Tuesday night, resulting in their mother's arrest on child abuse and neglect charges, police said.

Stacey L. Barrett, 34, 512 Swadley Road, Apt. 43, was arrested after police went to the Johnson City Crossing about 8:15 p.m. to check on the welfare the two children after a shopper reported seeing the children alone.

Police found the children, ages 7 and 1, in a white SUV without adult supervision. The older child told police they had been in the SUV since they arrived at the shopping center, and he did not know which store has mother was in. After investigating, police learned that they had been alone in the vehicle between 1 1/2 and two hours.
