K-Mets outlast Princeton, win in 17 innings

PRINCETON, W.Va. — Luis Guillorme hit a double in the top of the 17th inning that plated two runs, and the Kingsport Mets held on for a wild 5-4 victory over the Princeton Rays on Thursday night.

After Kingsport tied the game at 3-all on an RBI single by Brandon Brosher in the top of the sixth inning, the two teams remained scoreless until the 17th as both bullpens held serve. The two teams combined for 25 hits and nine errors, but both pitching staffs were able to work around the bevy of base runners until the 17th.

Kingsport's decisive rally was helped along by a pair of Princeton errors, the second of which allowed the eventual game-winning run to score. After the K-Mets broke through with two runs, Princeton Cristian Toribio came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame, but James Duff (1-0) was able to strike out Enmanuel Paulino with runners on second and third to end the game.

Zach Mathieu and Eudor Garcia each homered for the K-Mets (5-3) while Guillorme finished with three hits.

Riley Unroe hit a solo homer for Princeton (3-5) and Ruben Paredes (1-1) took the loss for the Rays, who stranded 17 runners on base.
