JOHNSON CITY — A complete schedule won't be announced until later this summer, but East Tennessee State men's basketball coach Murry Bartow revealed Tuesday that his Bucs will renew their rivalry with Tennessee on New Year's Eve.
The Bucs and Vols will play in Knoxville's Thompson-Boling Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 31, with the tipoff time still to be determined.
Though Donnie Tyndall will be in his first season coaching the Vols, Bartow — entering his 12th season on the ETSU bench — is quite familiar with him.
"I've known Donnie since his days at Middle Tennessee, and we coached against each other when he was at Morehead State, so I'm glad this worked out for both our teams," Bartow said in a release from the university. "This is always an exciting game for our fans and I think a high-level game for our players.
"It's been a few years since we've made the trip to Knoxville, so this will be a game everyone will look forward to playing."
Tennessee leads the series 12-2, though the games have been close over the years. The Vols won by only three points, 66-63, in the most recent meeting during the 2010-11 season. The Bucs' two victories came in back-to-back games, 83-70 in 1989 and 87-79 in 1991.comments powered by Disqus
