Man allegedly bites wife on nose during brutal assault

Michael Trent

CHURCH HILL — Police reportedly found bite marks on the nose of a woman who was allegedly beaten and choked by her husband Friday night for coming home late.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Friday Hawkins County Sheriff's Office Deputy Kenny Lunsford Jr. was dispatched to 179 Cross Valley Road just west of Church Hill on a complaint of a domestic assault in progress.

Upon his arrival Lunsford reportedly found the suspect, Michael Jason Trent, 36, of that address, hiding in an out-building with blood on his fingers.

Trent's wife, Shanna Thomas, reportedly stated that she came home that evening and found her husband intoxicated, and upset at her for being late.

"Thomas stated that Trent grabbed by her by her hair and began slamming her head into the wall," Lunsford stated in his report. "Thomas states she was slapped, punched and choked during this assault by Trent. Thomas stated Trent also bit her on the nose."

Lunsford added, "I found Thomas to have bruising around her throat and teeth marks on her nose. Thomas also had blood on her right thigh she stated came from her nose."

Trent was arraigned Monday on one count of aggravated assault, a Class C felony punishable by 3-6 years.

He remained held in the Hawkins County Jail Monday with no bond set.
