Law enforcement seeking alleged Kingsport counterfeiter

Tyler Shane Monroe, 19

KINGSPORT — Law enforcement authorities are seeking the public's help in locating a Kingsport man wanted for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to counterfeit money.

Tyler Shane Monroe, 19, of Kingsport, was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States and possessing counterfeited obligations in a three-count indictment handed down in January by a federal grand jury.

Authorities describe Monroe as black male with brown hair and brown eyes who measures 6-feet, 1-inches tall and weights approximately 270 pounds. Monroe's last known address was on Sewanee Street in Kingsport.

Monroe's indictment followed a joint investigation by the Kingsport Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service.

KPD launched the inquiry in Dec. 2012 before turning it over the the Secret Service.

Police said Friday that Monroe is the last of the alleged co-conspirators in the counterfeiting ring to be at-large. Eight other individuals indicted in the conspiracy have already been arrested and are awaiting sentencing.

Monroe is reportedly aware that he is being sought by authorities on the counterfeiting charge. Police said he is actively avoiding arrest.

Anyone with information concerning Monroe's whereabouts is asked to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
