Bucs' Freeman named to ABCA all-region team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A week and a half after being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, ETSU's Clinton Freeman of Jonesborough, Tenn., landed Second Team All-South Region honors on a list released by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Wednesday.

Freeman, who was selected in the 18th round by the Dodgers in the 2014 MLB Draft, received First Team All-Atlantic Sun honors following a productive senior campaign.

This season, Freeman started in all 57 games for the Bucs and hit .348 (77-221) with 17 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 53 RBI. The southpaw, a product of David Crockett High School, also earned two wins and 11 saves on the mound, while striking out 41 and walking 13 in 25 appearances. Freeman led the Buccaneers in multi-hit (22) and multi-RBI games (13) in 2014, while also registering at least one hit in 45 games. The Jonesborough native earned a pair of A-Sun Player of the Week honors and was named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week on March 31.

Freeman ranked nationally in home runs (16th), slugging percentage (17th), total bases (18th), saves (37th), and RBI (40th). The Buccaneer hurler also broke ETSU's all-time saves record this season after finishing his career with 21. Freeman's 11 saves in 2014 were also tied for the second-most in ETSU single-season history.
