NASHVILLE — Tennessee turkey hunters passed the 30,000 harvest mark for the 12th straight year during the spring season, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reported this week.
Despite inclement weather on several weekends during the season, the 2014 harvest stood at 32,495, slightly surpassing last year's total of 32,489. Spring turkey season ended in May.
Maury County was again tops with a harvest of 1,149. Greene County was again second with 786. Rounding out the top 10 counties were Dickson 719, Montgomery 686, Henry 679, Sumner 667, Wilson 647, Giles 618, Hickman 610 and Hardin 591.
The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission set the 2014-15 state hunting seasons at its late May meeting. The 2014 fall turkey season is Oct. 11-24. The 2015 spring turkey season will run for 44 days from April 4-May 17. The Young Sportsman Turkey Hunt is the weekend of March 28-29.comments powered by Disqus
