"When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?" — Psalm 8:3-4 (NIV)
I remember the first time I really felt grown up. It was during an all-adult get-together at my parents' home. I was a young teenager, but had not been shooed out of the room. During a conversation, I contributed something, and the adults listened and responded to what I had said! It not only made me feel grown up but also valued to have these adults whom I respected to pay attention to me and take seriously what I had said. Fortunately, we don't have to wait to mature in order to have God pay attention to us. Despite all the wonders of creation, many of which are much more spectacular than human beings, God still pays attention to us, and, more than that, cares for us. We are never removed from God's attention.
Prayer: Loving God, we are grateful for the care You lavish on us daily. Help us pay attention to those who are ignored or pushed aside because others consider them not worthy of care. Amen.
