Two charged with animal cruelty after four dead puppies found in Clarksville home

CLARKSVILLE — A woman and her estranged husband are facing animal cruelty charges after four dead puppies were found in their Clarksville home.

The Leaf-Chronicle reported Sunday that Nicole Hulbig and Eric Hulbig were arrested Thursday on four counts of aggravated animal cruelty after Montgomery County Animal Control officers discovered the decomposing puppies.

Both have been released on bond from the Montgomery County Jail. A jail official couldn't say if they have attorneys.

Nicole Hulbig is the founder of a nonprofit organization in Clarksville that claims to rescue dogs and train them for disabled soldiers.

The 29-year-old told the newspaper on Friday that she and her husband are separated and she had not been to the house in more than a month and had no knowledge of the four dead dogs.

Hulbig said all the animals that had been in her care either went with her when she moved to Cottontown, Tenn., or were placed in foster homes but she would not say where they are now.
