Innovation Academy parents still concerned about transportation, math issues

BLOUNTVILLE — Sullivan County school board members partially addressed a concern of Innovation Academy of Northeast Tennessee parents Wednesday night.

But the IA shuttle bus fix, funded by leftover federal grant dollars, only lasts for the fall semester.

Dan Firth, parent of a rising eighth- grade daughter at IA, in public comments said two concerns of parents were the uncertainty of bus transportation and no geometry offered to eighth- graders.

He said the math issue is important for students like his daughter, who already has taken Algebra I. He said such students likely would be "bored" with regular eighth-grade math.

He said Director of Schools Jubal Yennie told him that online classes might be an option.
