KINGSPORT — The University of Tennessee Knoxville is launching a noncredit leadership and development program in Kingsport starting in August.
It will mark the first time UT will put faculty on the ground at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education. Although UT has a representative at the KCHE, to date all its offerings have been online.
The Emerging Leaders program, two days every month for six months, will cost $7,500 for the series or $1,600 for one month's sessions. Those amounts includes books, classroom materials and break refreshments.
"Kingsport has wanted UT to bring courses to Kingsport," said Cindy Raines, director of communications and senior lecturer in marketing for the college. She will be one of nine faculty presenting on 12 days during the series.
Ron Solmonson, director of graduate and executive education for UT's College of Business Administration, said the intended constituencies for the classes are new or up-and-coming leaders or those with high potential in business and education, although he said there are no prerequisites for the program.
During a visit to Kingsport on Friday, Solmonson said, "This is an emerging leaders course. The initial support has been exceptional. We have some soft commitments."
