KINGSPORT — It took Lee Tissot of Asheville, N.C., about a lap to clear pole-starter Kyle Barnes for the lead at the beginning of Friday's 60-lap Late Model feature at Kingsport Speedway.

Once out front, Tissot was able to hold on to the lead without serious challenge for 60 caution free laps on his way to his first win of 2014.

Defending track champion Chad Finchum set fast-time qualifying of 15.240. With the top-five from qualifying inverted, Barnes of Draper, Va., inherited the pole position with Tissot on the outside of the front row.

The final top-five finishers were established fairly early in the race. The only question was whether lapped cars would have an effect on the running order.

With 10 to go Tissot caught the tail end of the lead lap including Wayne Hale, Tyler Goodwin and Zack Walton running ninth, 10th and 11th. Ahead of that trio were two more slower cars about to be lapped for the second time.

It had the potential for the perfect storm, with Shell and Stiltner closing in on Tissot just in time to hit the side-by-side lapped traffic. But the side-by-side battles ahead of Tissot evaporated and he was able to get past the danger cleanly.

Once in clean air Tissot ran away from the rest of the top four on his way to victory Lane.

Shell finished second ahead of Stiltner, Finchum and Monteith.
