FORT MYERS, Fla. — Kennesaw State's Brennan Morgan belted a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning to lift the Owls to an 11-7 victory over East Tennessee State on Wednesday in the Atlantic Sun Conference baseball tournament.
The sixth-seeded Bucs (26-29) fell behind early but battled back to nab a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth. Third-seeded Kennesaw State (34-21) rallied for seven unanswered runs, capped by Morgan's winning shot off Will Chesney.
Four ETSU players posted multihit games. Trey York and Kingsport's Chris Cook had three hits apiece, and Clinton Freeman of Jonesborough and Jeremy Taylor each had two.
Taylor drove in three runs, Cook plated two and Freeman and Matt Sorrow had an RBI apiece. York scored three times. ETSU's Jordan Sanford singled up the middle in the sixth to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 18 games.
Morgan finished 4-for-4 with two runs and five RBIs. Bo Way also was 4-for-4 with four runs scored for the Owls.
Junior right-hander Jimmy Nesselt got the start for the Bucs and allowed three runs on six hits in four innings before turning over the ball to Jamin McCann in the fifth. The freshman southpaw from Kingsport issued one unearned run and struck out two in two innings. Freeman followed by working a 1-2-3 seventh inning, but he was roughed up for three runs on four hits in the eighth. Chesney (4-3) suffered the loss after surrendering the walk-off slam.
First-team all-conference selection Just McCalvin (4-3) got the win after pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
ETSU dropped into an elimination game Thursday at 10 a.m. against No. 2 Mercer, which lost 7-5 in 10 innings to No. 7 Stetson later Wednesday at Florida Gulf Coast's Swanson Stadium. Kennesaw State, which has won 20 of its last 21 games, meets Stetson at 5 p.m. on Thursday.comments powered by Disqus
