"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." — 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)
Few situations can make us feel as vulnerable and embarrassed as being one of the last, or the last person, chosen for a team. The two captains call out the names of everyone else until one person stands alone and is begrudgingly picked for the team. We don't stand in the same way before God. God has chosen His people and named them royal, holy, God's own precious possession. As part of God's "team" we are brought into a relationship that removes darkness and brings light and life into our existence. We can hold our heads high and celebrate the fact that we were chosen by God.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for choosing us to be part of your people, royal and holy before you. May we by faith always walk in the brightness and warmth of Your marvelous light. Amen.
