ROGERSVILLE — A woman who allegedly admitted to "shooting morphine" in a liquor store parking lot with her 8-month-old child present Thursday afternoon was charged with DUI.

The Department of Children's Services was also called to the scene and the child was placed in state custody.

Around 4 p.m. Thursday Rogersville Police Department officers George Henry and Mark Cook were dispatched to the parking lot of the Rogersville Blue Ridge Package Store on Rt. 66 on a report of an intoxicated woman in a green Chrysler.

Upon their arrival police made contact with Sheena Nicole Reed, 28, 608 Hasson Street, Rogersville, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the Chrysler.

Officers also met Matthew Clinton Trent, 31, same address, in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The couple were both described by officers as unsteady on their feet with slurred speech, and bloodshot and glassy eyes.

"Ms. Reed advised she had been shooting up morphine, and had also been taking clonazepam and percocet," Henry stated in his report. "Ms. Reed's state of intoxication prevented her form being able to do any field sobriety (tests). Ms. Reed had several needle marks on both arms."

Reed was charged with DUI. As of Friday she remained held in the Hawkins County Jail on $2,500 bond pending arraignment Monday.

Cook stated in his report that Trent admitted to shooting morphine as well.

He was charged with public intoxication.

As of Friday Trent remained held in the Hawkins County Jail on $275 bond pending arraignment Monday.
