Moffitt, Andrew Keith
MOUNT CARMEL — A Hawkins County man who has been wanted for a year after allegedly escaping a police pursuit, leaving behind 47 syringes and an empty vodka bottle in his car, was arrested early Tuesday morning in Kingsport.
Andre Keith Moffitt, 21, 103 Pine Hills Drive, Rogersville, had been wanted on several charges including felony evading arrest since May 9, 2013 when he allegedly fled a Mount Carmel Police Department traffic stop on foot,
Shortly after 1 a.m. that morning MCPD Officer Ken Lunsford Sr. observed a vehicle on Carters Valley Road traveling 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.
When Lunsford attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled onto Old Hickory Drive where Lunsford allegedly clocked the vehicle traveling 50 mph in a 20 mph zone.
The vehicle then stopped in a driveway on Old Hickory Circle.
Lunsford said the driver, Moffitt, didn't have a driver's license, but did give his correct name, address and social security number.
While Lunsford was checking on Moffitt's driving status, Moffitt allegedly broke free from Lunsford and got away on foot.
A search of the vehicle revealed Moffitt to be in possession of an empty vodka bottle, and a gym bag containing 47 syringes.
At the time of his arrest Tuesday morning in Kingsport Moffitt was wanted on three separate Hawkins County warrants.
Lunsford has charged him with felony evading arrest, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, speeding, possession of an open alcohol container, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
Moffitt was also wanted on two failure to appear warrants — one for an arrest on Jan. 27, 2013 for DUI, speeding, and possession of drug paraphernalia including three syringes and burnt spoons; and for a July 2, 1012 arrest for shoplifting at the Rogersville Walmart.
Moffitt is being held in the Hawkins County Jail without bond pending arraignment set for May 28.comments powered by Disqus
