BIG STONE GAP — The fourth annual Harold Lester Memorial Golf Tournament to raise funds for an area cancer support facility is set for June 6 at Lonesome Pine Country Club in Big Stone Gap.
All proceeds from the tournament will support the Harold Lester Memorial Fund of the Mountain Laurel Cancer Support and Resource Center operated by Mountain Empire Older Citizens Inc. in Big Stone Gap.
Proceeds from last year's event have been used to meet unexpected needs of cancer patients throughout the community. Every cent raised at the tournament will directly assist a cancer patient in the area.
Tournament organizers say many lives have been touched as a result of the Harold Lester Memorial Fund, but many needs still exist.
When the late Harold Lester lost his battle with cancer, his family and friends sought a way to honor his memory while helping others in need in remembrance of Lester's devotion to caring for and assisting thousands of people during his lifetime.
They established the Harold Lester Memorial Fund as part of MEOC's Mountain Laurel Cancer Support and Resource Center to assist cancer patients in Lee, Scott and/or Wise counties, or the city of Norton.
There are several ways to participate in the tourney: as a player, company sponsor or individual sponsor. All donations are tax deductible.
