BIG STONE GAP — An area motorcycle club will host a 70-mile charity ride on May 10 in Wise County.
The Hillbilly Crew, the local chapter of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club, will host the 3rd annual Bikers Saving Second Base Charity Ride to benefit the Patient Care Fund at the Southwest Virginia Cancer Center in Norton.
"Each year we try to raise money for the Cancer Center with patient care funds to assist those this disease has affected," said event organizer John "Applejacks" Dean. "With this assistance of many sponsors, this year we hope to surpass our goal of $1,000 with our efforts."
The ride will begin at the Valero FasMart in Big Stone Gap, located next to Union High School, with registration between 1:15 and 1:45 p.m. Departure will be at 2 p.m. with a scenic, 70-mile ride through the back roads of Southwest Virginia, and return to Big Stone Gap for food and entertainment by the band "Calico Theory."
The cost of the ride is only $10 per bike with no additional charge for a passenger. There will be a limited number of ride T-shirts available.
"The event is open to everyone with all makes of motorcycles, and we encourage everyone to participate in this worthwhile event," Dean said.
