BLOUNTVILLE — Sales tax revenue countywide is running less than one percent above where it was at this point last budget year.
Sales tax revenues that came back to the county and its cities in April — for sales taxes collected in February — however, were up nearly 7.7 percent compared to the same month a year ago.
The countywide total of about $35.74 million since the fiscal year began July 1, 2013, represents an increase of about $421,000 over the same nine-month period last year.
For the month of April (for February sales), revenue totaled $3,763,153 — an increase of $268,878 compared to April 2013.
Sales tax revenues come back to the localities two months after they are collected by local merchants. February sales tax collections, for example, came back as revenue to Sullivan County, Kingsport, Bristol, Bluff City and Johnson City — as well as to the three school systems in the county — this month.
