CHURCH HILL — The Church Hill Public Library's summer reading program will be highlighted this summer by a visit from Mr. Bond and the Science Guys as part of their five-state tour.

The 2014 Summer Reading Program theme at libraries across the United States is science, and Mr. Bond and The Science Guys will be making science fun for kids at libraries in South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee.

The program, which is titled "Fizz, Pop, Boom," will include tornado simulations, sound effects and optical illusions.

Some libraries will also have special programs like "Silly Science" for their preschool children which features the Hoberman Sphere, and "Hair Raising Excitement" which includes hands-on electricity experiments for teens. The Science Guys will be at the Church Hill Library, 412 E. Main Blvd., on June 6 at 11 a.m.

Mr. Bond and The Science Guys was started by London, England-born Keith Trehy, who came to the United States via a soccer scholarship with the American University in Washington, D.C.

There, he earned a bachelor of science in chemistry.

Eventually settling in Nashville with a "Mad Science" franchise until 2007, Trehy now has a team of "edutainers" — teachers and entertainers — whose mission is to show kids that science is fun, cool and easy.

Three of the "mad scientists" who will be joining Mr. Bond (Trehy) at various events held around the southern states this summer include Professor Greybeard (John Wicks), Haz-Matt (Matt Simms) and Bionic Bond (Siena Trehy).

Wicks is an IT professional who has a minor in theater and spent time in Japan teaching English as a second language.

Haz-Matt (Simms) is a Nashville musician and preschool music teacher with a love of science.

Bionic Bond is Trehy's daughter and a Goucher College sophomore.

Admission is free. The current schedule can be found on the tour website calendar. More information and updates are available at mrbondscienceguy.com or by calling (615) 573-2702.
