KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen is planning to officially extend the city manager job offer to Jeff Fleming at its next regular meeting on May 6.

Earlier this month, the BMA informally agreed Fleming should get the job and had planned to make the official offer at the April 15 regular meeting. However, Fleming's father passed away that afternoon and the BMA deferred action on the measure.

Now, the offer is expected to be made next month.

"That's the next milestone," Fleming said last week. "All they're really doing is voting to begin the negotiation of the employment contract."

Former city attorney Joe May, who contracts with Kingsport from time to time, has been tapped to negotiate an employment contract with Fleming, to include salary, retirement contribution and likely vehicle and home office allowance.
