At least 100 new jobs coming to Wise

WISE — Sykes Enterprises Inc. will add 100 jobs to its facility near the town of Wise by June, a company spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.

Todd McReynolds, executive director of major markets account management for Sykes, said the telecommunications customer service company will expand the personnel base of its Wise County facility and make facility improvements to meet the needs of a contract with a major telecom provider.

The provider's identity cannot be revealed because of strict non-disclosure provisions of the contract, McReynolds said.

Sykes opened its Wise County center in 2000 and has maintained an employee base of 200 to 250 employees since. McReynolds said the facility will employ between 350 to 400 employees by early summer.

"We've been in Wise 14 years and had a lot of success, and we've been awarded new business as a result. This will include a major renovation of the facility of approximately $1 million to bring it back up to par," he said.

McReynolds said the expansion "reassures the investment the local economic development committee (Wise County Industrial Development Authority) made 14 years ago. Sykes continues to grow and expand, and we're glad to bring this new client into Wise."

Sykes was the first business to locate in Wise County's Lonesome Pine Business & Technology Park. Wise County IDA Executive Director Carl Snodgrass said the company became a much welcome corporate citizen from the start.

"At the very outset, there were some 'naysayers' or skeptics who expressed their opinion the company would never last, but the company has operated very successfully," Snodgrass said.

"At one stage, the Wise facility was considered the 'flagship' of the Sykes global operation and used as a model for corporate client visits, etc. Sykes has been a very good corporate citizens for all the time the company has been in operation in Wise County. They have always been a very supportive corporate citizen from a community perspective."

McReynolds said job seekers are welcome "to apply locally," and provided the facility's main number (276-376-1300) for phone inquiries.
