WISE — The University of Virginia's College at Wise will host the formal inauguration of Donna Price Henry as the eighth chancellor of the college at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
Henry was elected chancellor by the UVa Board of Visitors on Dec. 7, 2012, to succeed Prior, the college's seventh chancellor who died unexpectedly at age 46 while in his seventh year at the helm of UVa-Wise. Henry assumed office on Jan. 18, 2013.
A biologist with extensive experience in higher education, Henry came to UVa-Wise from Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) where she invested 16 years of her career, including as a founding faculty member, faculty senate president and served as a member of the FGCU Board of Trustees.
Henry served as dean of the FGCU College of Arts and Sciences, an assignment that demanded meticulous strategic planning and leadership to enable the university's rapid growth while continuing to improve academic quality.
She earned a bachelor of arts in biological basis of behavior from the University of Pennsylvania, with a minor in Spanish, and a doctorate in physiology from Thomas Jefferson University.
Henry and her husband Allen Henry, a pilot for Federal Express, have twin daughters, Jessie and Margaret.
A reception will immediately follow Tuesday's inauguration ceremonies.comments powered by Disqus
