Man convicted of sex crimes against children in Sullivan County

Dwight Walton III

BLOUNTVILLE — A Sullivan County man has been found guilty on multiple counts of rape of a child, aggravated sexual battery and child pornography.

Dwight R. Walton II, 31, of Bristol, Tenn., was convicted Tuesday on two counts of rape of a child, three counts of aggravated sexual battery, and two counts of solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means.

"I felt like this verdict was a fair and just verdict," said Teresa Nelson, Sullivan County assistant district attorney. "I'm relieved for the victim and their family. They waited a long time for their day in court."

Walton was accused of sexually penetrating a young girl on four occasions between June and November 2008. He also was accused of having unlawful sexual contact with her on one other occasion between those dates.

The victim was between 6 and 7 years old at the time of the offenses.

Walton was convicted of being in possession of more than 50 images of child pornography in November 2008 and 100 images of child pornography in July 2009.

He will be sentenced in May. Walton could face up to 50 years, without eligibility for probation or parole, on the rape of a child conviction.
