KINGSPORT — The Board of Mayor and Aldermen plans to ask Kingsport native and longtime city employee Jeff Fleming to be the Model City's next city manager.
Fleming said he would "absolutely" accept the job.
"It's an exciting time and I look forward to it," Fleming said, noting it has been a long time since an internal candidate has been elevated to city manager. "This shows our workforce that this is a possibility."
Fleming also praised city employees saying he won't be able to do his job without them.
Kingsport has been looking for its next city manager since John Campbell announced his retirement in December. Campbell, who has been in local government for more than 30 years, including the past eight years with Kingsport, will retire effective June 30.
