BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Mason Jakob, a 7-year-old Jefferson Elementary School student, went to Battle Creek, Mich., this past weekend and returned home to Kingsport with a national wrestling championship.

Jakob won the 8-under 43-pound division title at the 2014 NUWAY (National United Wrestling Association for Youth) Nationals conducted April 12-13 at Kellogg Arena.

He has compiled more than 60 victories this season competing in local, regional, statewide, all-star team, AAU and national events.

Jakob — who is trained by Joe Kemmerer, a two-time NCAA Division II national champion at Kutztown University — hopes to one day become a state champion wrestler for Dobyns-Bennett High School.
