BLOUNTVILLE — It's impossible to say, at this point, which of three candidates for Sullivan County Attorney has raised or spent the most on their campaign, based on available public records.
That's because one candidate, Alice Alexander, missed a filing deadline for first-quarter campaign financial disclosures.
Under state election guidelines, the deadline for candidates in May 6 party primaries to file those reports was Thursday.
As of Friday afternoon, Alexander — who on other campaign paperwork has listed her husband, Kingsport developer Gary Alexander, as her campaign's treasurer — had not filed the paperwork with the Sullivan County Election Commission.
Alexander, an attorney with a law practice on Stone Drive in Kingsport, is one of two people challenging incumbent County Attorney Dan Street for the GOP nomination in the Republican party primary on May 6.
The other challenger is John K. Gillenwater, a Bristol-based attorney.
The general election ballot is not until August, but the race for county attorney will be decided on May 6 in the Republican primary. That's because the only three candidates are seeking the GOP nomination — no one is running as a Democrat or independent.
