"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." — Genesis 1:1 (NIV)
We all look forward to the start of something new. The start of a new year brings with it a clean calendar and a new slate with resolutions designed to change our lives. The start of spring signals a time of renewal and refreshing, often characterized by spring cleaning and plowing gardens. The start of a school year promises new opportunities and a new chance to get organized — especially with all those cool school supplies on the shelf. These new starts bring with them so much hope that the time between them can often feel stale and dull. However, in the resurrection of Jesus, we are given the hope of a clean slate, a renewed heart and spirit, and a promise of a new life — all gifts from the God Who created everything. That truly is the joy of Easter.
Prayer: Gracious God, change our hearts, renew our spirits and give us faith to hold on to the promise of new life in You through Jesus. Amen.
