KINGSPORT — Kingsport police are investigating an early Tuesday morning incident that left a man with a gunshot wound, marking the second time the alleged victim has been shot in just over two years.
The most recent incident reportedly occurred on Allen Drive, with police called to Holston Valley Medical Center at approximately 1 a.m. A 37-year-old man was receiving treatment for a single gunshot wound to his leg.
According to a report filed at the Kingsport Police Department, the man said he and a friend were driving around an apartment complex when he heard five or six shots fired. He said "a few individuals" were standing beside a nearby car at that time. He told police one of them may have been the shooter.
Police are currently investigating the incident, with charges pending. The victim was treated for his wound and released from the hospital.
The same man is listed as the victim in a police report from December of 2011, when he claimed to have been held in a Kingsport home against his will.
According to his statements about that incident, he and a female had gone to a Carver Street residence. An argument over money ensued between the woman and a male resident, with the man allegedly retrieving a gun from a bedroom.
When the complainant attempted to leave, according to his statements in a police report, the other man pointed the gun and said, "You ain't going nowhere until this gets worked out."
After waiting approximately an hour for the conflict to be resolved, but to no avail, the victim allegedly told the resident, "Well shoot me then."
The man reportedly complied, firing one round into his leg. The victim then ran from the home and later sought medical treatment at the emergency room.
KPD Sgt. Chris Tincher reports no charges were ever filed in the incident and the case was closed due to the alleged victim's reluctance to cooperate with an investigation into his claims.
The Tuesday morning shooting on Allen Drive currently remains under investigation.
