FORT BLACKMORE — Crews from multiple local and state agencies were dispatched to a remote area of northeast Scott County on Friday night and again on Sunday to rescue two separate groups of hikers who became lost within a mile of each other on High Knob.
According to Scott County Central Dispatch, the first report of lost hikers came in at 9:11 p.m. Friday, when three people were reported missing near FS Begley Road in the Jefferson National Forest.
The second group of hikers was also reported lost on FS Begley Road Sunday night at 9:48 p.m. That group included four adults, a 7-year-old boy and a dog.
The two groups of hikers were found within about a mile of each other near the Devil's Bathtub on High Knob.
Duffield Fire and Rescue Chief Roger Carter said crews from several agencies were first mobilized Friday night after dispatch received a report of three people, including a 62-year-old woman with diabetes, who became lost while hiking to the Devil's Bathtub.
"They were about a mile off course," Carter said. "They were actually northwest of the Devil's Bathtub area by probably a mile."
