NASHVILLE — Lipscomb scored five runs over the first two innings and East Tennessee State couldn't quite recover in a 9-7 Atlantic Sun Conference baseball loss Friday night at Dugan Field.

ETSU right-hander Austin Hutchison (3-2) took the loss. The freshman gave up eight runs on 12 hits — both season highs — in 4 1-3 innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Lipscomb's Ian Martinez-McGraw (5-1) went six innings for the win. He allowed six runs on 10 hits before being relieved by Jason Ziegler. Ziegler worked the final three innings, issuing one run on one hit, for his second save.

Jonathan Allison, who led off the bottom of the first with a homer, finished 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and three RBIs for the Bisons (19-12, 8-2). Josh Lee went 5-for-5 with one double and two RBIs. They accounted for eight of Lipscomb's 16 hits.

The Bucs (14-15, 4-3) got back within two runs by scoring five times in the seventh.

ETSU then got the tying run aboard in the ninth when Jeremy Taylor was hit by a pitch with two outs, but Ziegler closed it out by inducing Chris Cook into a game-ending groundout to third.

Seven of ETSU's nine starters registered at least one hit with Kevin Phillips, Tyler Roach, Trey York and Matt Sorrow getting two apiece. Dylan Tritsch had a hit and scored a run to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 16 straight games.

The teams face off again Saturday at 3 p.m. Right-hander Jimmy Nesselt gets the start for ETSU. Lipscomb counters with righty Hunter Brothers.
