Couponing 101: Saving at the "dollar stores"

How far can you stretch a dollar? "Dollar stores" can put that to the test. Stack a good deal with store and manufacturer coupons and the deals get even sweeter!

None of the local dollar stores have loyalty programs, so the stacking is pretty basic. Dollar General and Family Dollar do work with the ibotta savings program: ibotta: https://www.ibotta.com/register

Now, let's take a closer look at the deals.

Dollar General

Before I started couponing, I had no idea that that Dollar General would let customers use a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon together on one item. Dollar General printable coupons are available at: http://bit.ly/1oq5e6L

One of the best coupons available is the $5 off a $25 purchase coupon. There is a trick to using this coupon. This is one of the few stores (that I know about) that the total (before taxes) has to be $25 AFTER you use all other coupons. Usually, couponers use these coupons first when they check out, but at this store this will be the final coupon you hand over. On the bright side, you can get quite a bit for $20, and the $5 coupon is basically a free gallon of milk...and milk coupons are a rare breed!

Dollar General has a mobile program and will send mobile alerts to your phone that include coupons and deals. Sign up for their mobile alerts program is available at: http://www2.dollargeneral.com/DGMobile/Pages/index.aspx
The full coupon policy is available at: http://www2.dollargeneral.com/Customer-Care-Center/pages/coupon-policy.aspx

Next, let's examine Family Dollar.

Family Dollar also allows the use of one manufacturer coupon and one store coupon together on one item. Family Dollar coupons are available in the newspaper inserts, via the web at: http://www.familydollar.com/pages/printable-coupons.aspx , and via text. You can sign up for mobile and E-mail programs at: . Family Dollar will accept mobile coupons.

Family Dollar's coupon policy is available at: http://www.familydollar.com/Documents/PDFs/Coupon-Policy-0911.pdf

Couponing at Dollar Tree is very basic...bring your newspaper coupons. Dollar Tree accepts manufacturer coupons, but according to their policy (see below) they will only allow two printable coupons per day per household. Dollar Tree will accept coupons that are over a dollar, but the value of the coupon will be reduced at the register.

As always, find what works best for you. Saving is not all or nothing. Every little bit helps.
