An Erwin woman was arrested after police said she drove her car into a cyclist while she was driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

On Saturday, Johnson City Police Department officers arrested Christine E. Bassett, 40, 505 Grady Simmons Road, Erwin, after they heard reports of an accident on University Parkway, almost a mile west of the Greenlee Road overpass.

Police said Bassett was driving west on University Parkway when her car -- a Ford Taurus -- left the road and struck John D. Moody, 30, 201 Walter Plant Road, Elizabethton, while he was riding his bicycle in the emergency lane.
