KPD searching for suspect in armed robbery of elderly man

KINGSPORT — Police are a searching for leads in the armed robbery of an elderly man that occurred Saturday morning in a Kingsport neighborhood.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall and of medium build. The man was seen wearing a military-style camouflage jacket and pants, with dark sunglasses and a tan ski mask covering his entire face and neck.

Police consider him to be armed and dangerous.

The man is being sought in connection with the armed robbery of a 71-year-old man that took place at about 7:30 a.m. at a residence on Radcliffe Avenue in Tellico Hills.

The victim was reportedly walking down the driveway of a friend's home when the suspect approached him brandishing a black semi-automatic handgun.

The suspect reportedly told the victim to give up his money or wallet. The unidentified man fled after being given an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim was not injured in the incident.

Police said the suspect was driving an older model sedan that was either dark gray or brown in color with tinted windows.

The victim told police that the car had unique damage — possibly from a sideswipe — on its driver's side door. Police said the damage appeared to be old, and possibly painted over, with rippling visible from the interior structural ribs of the door.

A passenger was present in the suspect's car during the robbery but did not participate, police said. The passenger was described as wearing a knit hat.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or passenger or the whereabouts of the vehicle, or who may have any additional information regarding the incident, is asked to contact the Kingsport Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at (423) 229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at (423) 0246-9111.
