COEBURN — A Wise County man was taken into custody early Friday after briefly holding deputies at bay from inside a home near Coeburn.
The Wise County Sheriff's Office reports that at around 1:33 a.m. Friday deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at 12301 McClellan Meade Road in the Crab Orchard section of Coeburn.
Deputies obtained and served an emergency protective order on Glen Allen Lane Jr., 31, barring him from the residence and any contact with his wife for a 72-hour period.
At approximately 3:40 a.m. deputies and officers from the Coeburn Police Department responded to a call of gunshots at the address. Upon arrival deputies and officers determined Lane had returned to the residence and was inside the home.
Officers also heard weapons being discharged from inside the residence. They further determined the other family members had already left the home prior to Lane's return.
The Sheriff's Response Team and crisis negotiation team were called to the scene, a perimeter was set up around the residence and at around 8 a.m. negotiators made contact with Lane. He surrendered a short time later without further incident.
Lane was taken into custody and charged with violation of a protective order and reckless handling of a firearm. He is currently being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield without bond.comments powered by Disqus
