Hawkins County Clerk of Courts Sarah Davis
ROGERSVILLE — An order dismissing the contempt of court charge against Hawkins County Clerk of Courts Sarah Davis was issued late Monday afternoon, but it wasn't entered into public record before the end of business hours.
Her trial, which was set for Thursday afternoon, was also canceled.
Davis was charged with contempt of court on Feb. 3 by Sessions Judge J. Todd Ross. The charge stemmed from a verbal altercation the two had in Davis' office on Jan. 30 regarding a courtroom staffing dispute.
A reliable courthouse source told the Times-News Monday that Second Judicial District Attorney General Barry Staubus of Sullivan County, who is serving as special prosecutor in Davis' case, had sent an order dismissing the case against Davis to special appointed Judge Ben Cantrell.
The dismissal is being issued "with prejudice," which is the equivalent to a finding of not guilty, and Davis cannot be recharged.
It couldn't be confirmed Monday evening whether the judge had signed the order.
