ROGERSVILLE — A Sevierville teen was injured in an accidental shooting Friday afternoon when he dropped his pistol following a horseback riding outing in the Eidson community north of Rogersville.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Michael Allen responded to the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital emergency room Friday evening where Jean Galloway of Stringtown Road reported that she and several family members had been horseback riding that afternoon near her residence.
Galloway told Allen they had completed their ride and were feeding their horses when a male in their party, who was 15 at the time but turned 16 on Monday, said he was going to check his "game cameras."
"He went outside and put his gun belt on," Allen stated in his report. "A few minutes later they heard him screaming as he came out onto the porch. He told them he had dropped his Colt .45 out of the holster, and when it hit the floor it went off."
The bullet reportedly traveled through the front side of his lower right leg and exited just above it, Allen added.
The boy was treated for the non-life threatening injury and released.
The weapon was retrieved by Detective John Pruitt for follow up investigation.comments powered by Disqus
