BLOUNTVILLE — Early voting for May 6 primaries begins in less than four weeks.
The general election ballot is not until August, but the race for Sullivan County mayor will be decided on May 6 in the Republican Party primary.
That's because the only two candidates for county mayor are running for the GOP nomination.
And the primary winner looks to have a lock on the $105,000 per year job, with no one running as a Democrat or Independent.
Steve Godsey is seeking the GOP nomination to run for a third term as county mayor, having first come to the office in 2006 — the year his predecessor, Richard Venable, chose not to run for re-election to the mayor's office.
