GATE CITY — A Southwest Virginia man who allegedly tried to return items he stole from a home he once rented is facing burglary charges following his arrest by Gate City police.
William Lee Ziehler, 36, 375 Fir St., Gate City, was charged with grand larceny, felony breaking and entering and public intoxication as a result of the alleged incident.
Ziehler, who was arrested Feb. 27, is scheduled to appear in Scott County General District Court on Tuesday.
According to the Gate City Police Department, officers were dispatched to investigate a burglary Feb. 17 at a residence located at 587 Fir St.
The alleged victim told the authorities that she had been away from home and returned to find numerous items missing. The items, which included jewelry, electronics and prescription medication, were reportedly valued at $1,200.
The woman reported that Ziehler had been at her house earlier in the day to ask for a jack he had left at the residence when he lived there in November 2013.
Police said Ziehler failed to return all of the door keys to the landlord when he moved out of the rental property.
Ziehler was reportedly interviewed that day at the Scott County Sheriff's Office, where he was read his Miranda rights before being released.
The day after the interview, police said the victim left her residence for approximately 10 minutes before returning home to find the stolen jewelry, electronics and an additional watch on her back porch.
Police said Ziehler agreed to a polygraph test after being taken into custody a second time.
Ziehler is currently being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield.comments powered by Disqus
