UPDATE: Names of 'Shamrock Shakedown' drug suspects released

GATE CITY — The indictments of over three dozen people were unsealed following their arrests this week in Scott County's "Shamrock Shakedown" drug roundup.

According to Scott County Circuit Court records, a total of 168 indictments on 39 individuals were unsealed by 30th Circuit Judge John Kilgore.

Those 39 were arraigned Thursday morning in Circuit Court.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office, along with the Southwest Virginia Drug Task Force and the Virginia State Police, began making the arrests Monday as part of its St. Patrick's Day "Shamrock Shakedown." The Scott County Commonwealth's Attorney's office also participated.

The operation sought the arrests of 59 suspects indicted by a Scott County grand jury March 13 on 218 total charges.

The indictments followed over a year of joint investigations carried out by the SCSO, the Drug Task Force, the VSP, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The following individuals had their indictments unsealed:

  • Anthony James Akers, Coeburn, possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana with intent to distribute
  • Joshua Clay Bishop, Duffield, two counts of possession with intent to manufacture Schedule I or II drugs, distribution of Schedule I or II drugs
  • Peggy Ann Bishop, Gate City, three counts of distribution of Schedule III drugs, distribution of Schedule I or II drugs, maintaining a common nuisance
  • Leonard M. Barnette, Duffield, distribution of Schedule III drugs, distribution of Schedule I or II drugs
  • Ashley Nicole Boyer, Gate City, three counts of distribution of Schedule III drugs, maintaining a common nuisance
  • Justin Arther Boyer, Gate City, four counts of distribution of Schedule III drug
  • William David Burke, Gate City, three counts of distribution of Schedule III drugs, maintaining a common nuisance 1st offense, maintaining a common nuisance 2nd offense
  • Adama Leray Bush, Dungannon, two counts distribution of Schedule III drugs, distribution of imitation Schedule I or II drugs, distribution of drugs near school grounds
  • Prince Alton Carroll, Kingsport, two counts of distribution of marijuana between .5 ounce and 5 lbs.
  • Autumn Rachel Clark, distribution of Schedule III drug
  • George William Cox, Big Stone Gap, four counts distribution of marijuana between .5 ounce and 5 lbs.
  • Dwayne Todd Cozart, Gate City, three counts of distribution of a Schedule I or II drug, possession of Schedule I or II drug with intent to manufacture, distribution of drugs near school grounds
  • Benjamin Crawford, Fort Blackmore, distribution of Schedule I or II drug, distribution of Schedule III drug
  • Johnny Allen Davidson, Weber City, three counts of distribution of Schedule I or II drug, distribution of Schedule III drug
  • April Collins Dean, Gate City, five counts of distribution of Schedule III drug, three counts of selling drugs near school grounds
  • Donald Roger Dean, Gate City, three counts of distribution of Schedule I or II drug, distribution of Schedule III drug
  • Adrienne Shea Duncan, Kingsport, 10 counts of distribution of Schedule III drugs, two counts of distribution of marijuana less than .5 ounce, maintaining a common nuisance 1st offense, maintaining a common nuisance 2nd
  • Lennie Lee Durham, Big Stone Gap, distribution of Schedule III drug, distribution of drugs near school grounds
