KINGSPORT — A teenage boy was injured Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle on Lynn Garden Drive while riding his bicycle.
According to the Kingsport Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. in the vicinity of Higher Ground Baptist Church, located at 1625 Lynn Garden Drive.
A 15-year-old white male received non-life threatening injuries in the collision, a police spokesman said.
The incident reportedly occurred when the teen failed to yield the right of way to pre-existing traffic on Lynn Garden Drive as he exited the parking lot of Higher Ground Baptist.
As the boy entered the roadway, his bicycle was struck by a northbound 2001 Chevrolet Tracker compact SUV driven by Marquita A. Ellenburg, 55, of Bartlett, Tenn.
Police said Ellenburg attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid striking the bicycle.
The boy was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County EMS for treatment of his injuries.
Ellenburg was not injured in the crash. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
