Suspect in Sullivan County domestic shooting dies

A Kingsport man suspected of fatally shooting his wife and then turning the gun on himself has passed away.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, Ricky Neeley, 22, passed away on Tuesday afternoon. He had been hospitalized in critical condition since the incident occurred on Friday.

At that time police responded to his home at New Summerville Road, lot 16, to find his wife with a gunshot wound to the head. Edith Neeley, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the double shooting appears to be a murder/suicide, with Ricky Neeley pulling the trigger. The couple had reportedly experienced recent marital problems.

Their 7-month-old son and 2-year-old daughter were present when the shooting occurred. They are currently in the care of a family member.

Investigators are waiting to close the case until an autopsy report is received on Edith Neeley's body, which is standard protocol for any violent fatalities.
